Why is this training important?

Accidents and illness can result in disability, death or incapacity for work. The Supervisor is in an ideal position to influence, monitor and train employees. They can also ensure that Managers are informed, persuaded, and encouraged into providing for better health and safety standards.

  • Health and safety legislation - Employers’ and employees’ responsibilities
  • The work environment - Welfare provisions in the workplace
  • Sources and nature of information - Communication in the workplace
  • Health and safety terminology - The main causes of injuries and ill health at work; Costs associated with accidents and ill health
  • Benefits of a safety management system - Elements of a safety management system
  • Benefits of assessing and controlling risks Types of risk assessment; Specific risk assessments; Five step risk assessment process
  • Occupational, environmental, human and organisational factors
  • Common workplace hazards including: working at height, slips, trips and falls, workplace equipment, noise and vibration, transport and vehicles, display screen equipment, hazardous substances, stress
  • Risk control measures using the hierarchy of control
  • Control of manual handling hazards/ Control of electrical hazards in the workplace/ Control of workplace hazards caused by fire
  • Incident and accident reporting - Accident investigation
