The Qualsafe Awards Level 2 Award in Food Safety focuses expressly on the needs of food handlers in the catering and hospitality sectors. The food handlers' role, hazard identification and controls, record keeping and reporting procedures are all highlighted in this course.

Anyone working in a catering or hospitality setting where food is prepared, cooked and served.

  • Importance of food safety
  • Types of contamination / Cross contamination
  • Bacteriology (including food poisoning and food borne diseases)
  • Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP)
  • The law and food safety
  • Legal responsibilities of food handlers
  • Personal hygiene in food safety
  • Keeping the work area and equipment clean and tidy
  • Pest controls
  • Safe food handling practices and temperature controls
  • Stock control procedures

Prerequisites: none
Assessment: 30 question multi-choice exam. Candidates must achieve twenty or more correct answers to be awarded the Qualsafe Awards Level 2 award in Food Safety

Validity: Qualsafe recommends refresher training every 3 years
Suggestion progression: Level 3 Award in Supervising Food Safety
