Health and Safety in the Workplace – Level 2

This course is designed to ensure that all employees are aware of their own safety and the safety of customers, contractors and the public. This qualification can be tailored to business and individual needs to make the learning experience relevant and fit for purpose.

Why is this training important?

Employers are responsible for providing safe and healthy workplace conditions as well as the right systems and methods for safe activities. Nevertheless employees also have a vital part to play in the equation. They need the right knowledge and the right attitude which demands proper training in the basics of health and safety, as well as specific training for individual tasks.

Understand the roles and responsibilities for health, safety and welfare in the workplace

  • Employer’s and employee’s duties
  • Consequences for non-compliance
  • Requirements for training and competence
  • Ways health and safety information can be communicated

Understand how risk assessments contribute to health and safety

  • Define terms ‘hazard’ and ‘risk’
  • Process for carrying out a risk assessment
  • Principle of risk control hierarchy
  • How risk assessment is used to reduce accidents and ill health

Understand how to identify and control the risks from common workplace hazards

Hazards, the harm they can cause and risk controls:

  • the workplace, slips trips and falls, working at height, electricity, manual handling, ergonomics, equipment, noise and vibration

Hazards, the harm they can cause and risk controls:

  • transport and vehicles, hazardous substances, stress, violence, smoking, alcohol and drugs, fire safety

Know the procedures for responding to accidents and incidents in the workplace

  • Actions needed to be taken following an incident
  • Arrangements for emergencies and first aid in the workplace
  • Importance of recording all incidents, accidents and ill health

Duration: 1 day
Assessment: 30 question multi- choice exam. Candidates must achieve twenty or more correct answers to be awarded the Qualsafe Awards Level 2 award in Health & Safety
